Maestro & Me Weeks 6 & 7
Maestro & Me Week 6&7: Getting Ready
Tomorrow evening all the students’ hard work will come to fruition, as they give the premiere performances of their original compositions, accompanied by the NPCO, to a full audience of friendly faces of the Buninyong community.
These last two weeks we have practiced performing our pieces – this includes the smaller details of walking on and off pretend stages, bowing, playing their pieces to their peers and receiving their feedback – so often glowing and supportive!
We also discussed at length what makes a ‘good’ performance. Again, I was overjoyed that not one student said ‘to play with no mistakes’. Music to my ears! What came out of the discussion was a list of wonderful qualities including – to smile, have fun, have a clear mindset, stay focused and be confident.
I can’t wait to share the stage with these brave and inspiring students tomorrow evening, showcasing their own compositions as part of the third consecutive ‘Music on the Mount’. There won’t be a dry eye in the house!
Maestro & Me is an initiative of Buninyong Primary School and the NPCO.
Through Term 2 selected students at Buninyong Primary School Years 3-6 will work with NPCO Artistic Director, pianist/composer Gemma Turvey learning how to improvise and create their own, original compositions! The program culminates in their Music on the Mount concert on Saturday 2nd June, showcasing many of their compositions premiered by the New Palm Court Orchestra for the broader school community!
