Inaugural Music on the Mount!
The NPCO had a wonderful time in Buninyong last Saturday performing for the inaugural Music on the Mount concert with students from Buninyong Primary, raising important awareness and funds for music education. The concert featured an array of beautiful music arranged by Artistic Director Gemma Turvey for the evening, including classical minuet and prelude, folk songs, gospel, rock ballads, original compositions and an Aussie classic to close, all performed by student soloists with NPCO.
The evening also featured a fundraising event at the Buninyong Town Hall, complete with a delightful music tree, silent auction and beautiful student art works for sale, depicting what music meant to them. View pictures from the night here
Of the evening, Artistic Director Gemma Turvey said: “It was truly inspiring being surrounded by the student’s enthusiasm, talent and musicality. All the NPCO musicians were impressed by the standard of performance and heart-warmed by the event. We certainly look forward to making Music on the Mount a regular event on our calendar!”
Everyone’s heart and mind was full of joy for music by the end! Read some of the student performer reflections on the evening below.
Music on the Mount was a great experience for me. I performed with a famous violinist Jeremy Blackman. I cant wait to audition again next year. Everyone performed well, I didn’t realise we had so many talented students in our school. Thanks to Mr Skilbeck, Gorgi and Gemma for organising the concert, it was professionally done. I think the audience enjoyed it a lot. I felt like a professional violinist on stage. Thank you so much for coming,

When I was on stage, well, there was no other words to describe it, it was brilliant! Just being on stage was a privilege and a heart stopper and I have been on stage many times before, but, this was special, really special! Having a big crowd and knowing that all these people were supporting the school, through me, was breathtaking and I actually had my prep teacher in the crowd and she drove an hour to see this special event in which it will last as a great memory and achievement.

It was such a privilege to be part of Music on the Mount. It is so important to communicate through music and it means a lot to me. We all enjoyed the night and had a great time. Thank you to all of the people who helped and who made a donation.
