Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival 2018 Arts Program – PRISM

An exclusive showcase event as part of the  VAMFF Arts Program.

Artistic Director Gemma Turvey and NPCO String Quartet present an enchanting evening exploring the themes of perception and illusion as part of the 2018 VAMFF Arts Program. Including Arvo Pärt’s transcendent Spiegel im Spiegel, Piazzolla’s stunning Oblivion featuring Jeremy Blackman (violin), Eugene Friesen’s Shadow Play featuring Campbell Banks (cello) and pianist & composer Gemma Turvey’s new work Prism for Piano and String Quartet.

From Jewish Life celebrates the rich and diverse tapestry of Hebraic culture with music from Poland, Israel, South America and Australia. NPCO Debut at the Jazzlab

NPCO is excited to make its debut at the Jazzlab this May!  This concert will comprise a Quintet of core players, featuring Gemma Turvey (piano), Craig Beard (vibraphone/percussion),  Tom Lee (double bass), Campbell Banks (cello) and Rosie Savage (French Horn).  Join us for a great evening of chamber jazz with music by Eugene Friesen, Egberto Gismonti, Gemma Turvey and some new tunes by Craig Beard!

Music on the Mount 2018

Join us for a magical weekend in Buninyong in regional Victoria, for Buninyong Primary School’s Music on the Mount collaborative concert with the NPCO. The evening features original student compositions, performed by the students of the Maestro & Me Program overseen by NPCO AD Gemma Turvey alongside arrangements of much loved choral and instrumental works for the students to perform with the NPCO.

“It is with such pride that the NPCO and I share the stage with these brave, creative, inspiring young musicians. It really is our favourite gig of the year” says Gemma. Each year the evening raises significant funds for the school’s music program.

Continuing the rich tapestry of music in From Jewish Life, Campbell Banks (cello) and Artistic Director Gemma Turvey (piano) present a sonorous duo recital in the magnificent interior of East Melbourne Synagogue, featuring JS Bach Sonata for Viola da Gamba No 1 in G major, Bohuslav Martinu’s joyful Cello Sonata No 3, and Ernest Bloch’s heartfelt From Jewish Life suite, plus 1 or 2 NPCO favourites.
